Line Up!
I have had TONS of questions about how/where I get my kiddos to line up and what my dots are made of so I decided to do a little post on it. Has anyone ever used packing tape to tape down some cutesy decor you found to the floor for your kiddos to line up on only to find that it only last about 2 months and then it leaves a horrible residue on the floor? Frustrating, right? Well, I think I just might have the answer. This past year I got this awesome little machine called a CRICUT and I had the idea of cutting vinyl circles to put on the floor. I wasn't sure how they would hold up but to my surprise they still looked FANTASTIC on the very last day of school. :) I forgot to take an "after" picture but trust me they still looked GREAT! All you need is some vinyl and a Cricut or some other kind of dicut machine (you can even use vinyl on your schools dicut machines). What a great idea- yes that tape does come up. Have you ever tried it on carpet? I assign carpet spots and put down labels with packing tape. yep, it gets yucky.

That is such a great idea!! We typically use contact paper to stick the spots on to the floor, but like you said I'm lucky if I get a few months out of it. Do you think the vinyl would be difficult to cut with scissors? I can only dream about owning a Cricut machine one day :) Thank you so much for sharing!

Great idea, unfortunately I have carpet. What we have found that works is using the sewing type Velcro. We just write numbers on the Velcro and attach to the carpet. Stays all year.

Did you put the numbers on the vinyl or did you handwrite them. I love my cricut too! I never thought of this, but I'll be making me some dots tomorrow:)

ReplyDeletedo you have something on every one? our custodial staff doesn't like things stuck to the tile...i am wondering if they sweep/mop those areas will it make them come up on the edges? i think if i can show them that they don't leave a residue that they won't complain...i have the kids numbered and we call it 'fire order'...used for fire drills....we practice this a lot and so if i need them to get in a numberline for whatever reason they can do it...or can just line up whichever way.
don't have a cricut...but do have a die cut that should be fine. Can you buy vinyl at local stores?

OMG! You are so smart! I've never thought of that!!! DId they peel off okay and your janitor didn't have a heart attack? Can they mop over them daily? I have a cricut and I think I'm going to have to try that!!!

ReplyDeleteThe vinyl circles are self-adhesive and the letters and numbers are also vinyl that I cut on my cricut. :)

Anonymous-I actually just purchased mine for this school year and I got the outdoor vinyl from the website I listed above. :) The self-adhesive vinyl is what I used and it came off great with just a little putty scraper. :)

Great idea. I am ordering vinyl to stick on floor today. I also know that if I would have done this before they waxed our floors (right after they stripped them), they will wax over them and make them last even longer.
